Naturopathy: Caffeine's effect on eyes
Im a 43-year-old male who has difficulty seeing objects far away. I was told that my favourite caffeinated drinks are bad for the eyes. Is this true? Near-sightedness or myopia is a vision problem experienced by up to about one-third of the population. Near-sighted people have difficulty reading highway signs and seeing other objects at a distance, but can see tasks such as reading or sewing. Near-sightedness may be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, laser or refractive surgery. It is true that caffeinated drinks may interfere with the normal blood circulation to the eyes and upset the hormonal stability in the system. Caffeine is regarded as toxins in your system, so avoid them. Always exercise your eyes. Rotate them in a circular motion without moving your head. However, the lens, retina, macula and other parts of the eye involved in eyesight can be protected with the proper intake of antioxidants.
It's tea time at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party
EUREKA -- For 10 years, Chiyomi Thompson has been brewing teas, baking scones and serving petite sandwiches to patrons young and old at her tea shop, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, on E Street. In addition to serving assorted teas and delicacies -- including scones, sandwiches, quiche and other fare -- to folks who come in throughout the day, Thompson also offers a traditional high tea five days a week, all from a cozy dining room. And, she single-handedly prepares each morsel herself. The history of tea is a long one, according to Stash Tea's Web site (www.stashtea.com). However, "high tea" didn't come onto the tea scene until the mid-1800s when Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, experienced a "sinking feeling" during the long wait between breakfast and dinner, which was served well into the evening.
