Klang Valley Streets: Lighten up, it's mooncake time

Its that time of the year again for mooncakes and lanterns. With the Mid-Autumn Festival just four days away, FRANCIS DASS savours the possibilities.

I AM usually over the moon at this time of year. It is mooncake festival time and, ever since my childhood growing up in Penang, I can never seem to get enough of mooncakes and hand-held candle-lit lanterns.

Of course, mooncakes have evolved from the plain lotus single-yolk variety to the shocking four-yolked ones of a few years ago (which we thankfully dont see much of nowadays) to multi-flavoured varieties.

Do you have a yen for green tea mooncakes, or red bean or perhaps durian mooncakes? No problem: the makers of mooncakes are outdoing themselves when it comes to novelty tastes.

The best place in the Klang Valley for a wide variety of mooncakes could well be Mid Valley Megamall.

Coffee break

Wakeup call: Take a look at the long lines at Starbucks: Caffeine is the world's most popular drug. Americans consume an average of 200 milligrams of the stuff per day, the equivalent of about two cups of coffee, four cups of tea or four cans of cola.

Pump it up: Energy drinks contain as big a jolt as a cup of joe. The content depends on how coffee is brewed -- fresh drip has the highest amount, instant the lowest. No matter the dosage, caffeine is still addictive.
